Hong Kong Launches SkyCity Marina Project to Boost Yacht Economy
Hong Kong’s Airport Authority has officially launched the marina project, a central component of the broader SkyCity and Skytopia development blueprints. The initiative aims to attract global investment from the yachting, hospitality, and water sports sectors to develop a 200-hectare site near the Hong Kong International Airport. The first phase is scheduled for completion in 2028, initially accommodating 70 small and medium-sized vessels. Ultimately, the facility will become Hong Kong’s largest yachting hub with 500 berths, including specialized spots for ultra-large yachts up to 150 meters. Cissy Chan Ching-sze, the authority’s commercial executive director, highlighted that the project targets a global yachting market projected to reach HK$352 billion by 2032. Additionally, the development will feature a 100-hectare water sports recreation zone offering activities such as cable skiing and waterborne pickleball. This strategic move is designed to diversify Hong Kong’s tourism offerings and stimulate economic growth through the high-end marine leisure industry.
