Hong Kong Firm Launches Tailor-Made Electric Minibus to Target Untapped Market
Wai Lik New Energy, a Hong Kong-based electric commercial vehicle solutions provider, has partnered with Fujian-based Wisdom Motor to launch the Wisdom V7, an electric minibus specifically engineered for Hong Kong’s unique urban landscape. Unveiled at the Hong Kong Science Park, the vehicle features 19- and 24-seat configurations and rapid charging capabilities, reaching full charge from 20 percent in just 15 minutes. Founder Ng Chi-wai emphasized that the design addresses local challenges such as narrow streets and steep gradients. This launch aligns with the Hong Kong government’s strategic goal to phase out fossil-fuel commercial vehicles by 2035 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Currently, only about 10 of the city’s 4,000 minibuses are electric, representing a significant untapped market. Wai Lik New Energy aims to capture over half of this local market within three years, with deliveries scheduled for the third quarter of 2026. The initiative marks a critical step in modernizing public transport infrastructure and reducing emissions in one of Asia’s most densely populated cities.
