Guwahati experienced severe disruption following heavy overnight rainfall that lasted for nearly seven to eight hours, causing widespread waterlogging across multiple neighborhoods including Chandmari, Nabin Nagar, and Ganeshguri. The intense downpour brought the city to a standstill, resulting in the closure of schools and major traffic congestion as key roads were submerged under knee-deep water. Commuters faced significant hardships due to stranded vehicles and a lack of available transport options, forcing many to wade through flooded streets or incur extra costs for alternative travel. Tragically, a woman lost her life in the Maligaon area after slipping into an open manhole during the storm. The incident has once again highlighted the city's persistent drainage infrastructure issues, with residents expressing frustration over the lack of permanent solutions. While some locals pointed to improper waste disposal and plastic clogging drains as contributing factors, others criticized the authorities for inadequate development work. As of now, officials have not announced further measures, leaving residents to deal with the aftermath of the flooding and ongoing difficulties in their daily routines.
