GVMC Commissioner Orders Crackdown on Sanitation Lapses in North Zone

Ketan Garg, the Commissioner of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), has issued a stern warning regarding sanitation negligence following an inspection of the North Zone. During the visit to Ward No. 25, covering areas from BVK College Junction to Seethampeta Junction, Garg identified significant failures in waste management, including irregular door-to-door collection, inefficient transportation, and accumulated garbage near residential and commercial sites. In response to these lapses and resident complaints, the Commissioner ordered immediate suspension proceedings against Sanitary Supervisor Ramarao and Ward Sanitation Secretary Satish Kumar for negligence. Garg mandated strict measures to prevent construction debris dumping on roads and required all construction sites to install green mats for dust control. He also directed officials to keep footpaths free from encroachments. The Assistant Medical Officer of Health was instructed to implement urgent corrective actions and ensure continuous monitoring of sanitation standards. This crackdown highlights the municipal authority's commitment to maintaining urban hygiene and holding officials accountable for public service failures in Visakhapatnam.
