GVMC Accelerates Ward Delimitation, Increasing Wards from 98 to 120

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has expedited its ward delimitation process to align with new State government guidelines, which mandate an increase in the number of municipal wards from 98 to 120. This restructuring is driven by population growth and aims to ensure uniform distribution, targeting between 14,500 and 16,500 residents per ward. GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg announced that the draft proposal is scheduled for release by April 24, 2026. The delimitation exercise is being conducted in phases, starting in the north-eastern zone covering Bheemunipatnam and progressing towards the south-western end in Anakapalli. Before the finalization of the new ward boundaries, the public is invited to submit objections or suggestions. This administrative update reflects ongoing efforts to improve local governance infrastructure in Visakhapatnam by adjusting electoral constituencies to better represent the current demographic landscape. The initiative underscores the municipal body's commitment to adhering to state mandates while providing a window for civic engagement in the decision-making process.
