Green Shade Nets Installed at Salem Traffic Signals Receive Positive Public Response

The Salem City Police have installed green shade nets, locally known as 'pasumai pandhal,' at key traffic junctions in Salem, Tamil Nadu, to alleviate the discomfort caused by soaring summer temperatures. With daytime temperatures ranging between 95 and 102 degrees Fahrenheit since April, motorists, particularly those on two-wheelers, faced significant hardship while waiting at signals during peak afternoon hours. The initiative was specifically targeted at the Salem Collectorate and Hasthampatti Junctions, as other major signals are already shaded by flyovers. The move has garnered appreciative feedback from residents, who noted the relief provided against the harsh sun. In parallel with this infrastructure improvement, Salem Corporation Commissioner M. Elangovan announced that the municipal corporation is supplying drinking water at eight locations across four zones to further assist the public. This water supply initiative is scheduled to continue until the end of May. The combined efforts reflect local authorities' responsiveness to seasonal weather challenges, aiming to improve urban livability and commuter comfort during the intense heatwave affecting the district.
