Geely Opens First CKD Factory in Africa and Middle East in Egypt
Chinese automaker Geely has officially inaugurated its first completely knocked down (CKD) manufacturing facility in Africa and the Middle East, located in Egypt. The opening ceremony was attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, who highlighted the strategic importance of the plant and expressed aspirations for Egypt to serve as a major export hub for Geely's vehicles. According to reports from local media outlet Egypt Today and Xinhua News Agency, the new factory aims to produce up to 30,000 vehicles annually within the next three years. This initiative is designed to meet growing local demand while also facilitating exports to other countries across the African and Middle Eastern regions. Production has already commenced with the assembly of Emgrand sedans and Coolray crossovers. Song Jim, Vice President of Geely Auto Holding Group, confirmed the start of operations. This expansion marks a significant milestone in Geely's international growth strategy, strengthening its presence in emerging markets and enhancing its supply chain capabilities outside of China.
