Geely-Backed Zeekr Plans South Korea Market Entry by 2026
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Zeekr, backed by automotive giant Geely, has announced strategic plans to enter the South Korean market by 2026. According to statements made to Bloomberg, the company intends to establish a physical presence by opening showrooms in Seoul and the surrounding Gyeonggi province by next year. As part of its initial rollout, Zeekr aims to attract tech-savvy local consumers with the Zeekr 001, a mainstream luxury model equipped with advanced driving features such as autonomous parking. This expansion move coincides with increased competition in the region, as rival Chinese EV maker BYD is currently preparing regulatory approvals for a late 2024 launch in South Korea. Beyond international expansion, Zeekr continues to strengthen its domestic portfolio in China, with plans to release two new models later this year: the Mix, a five-seater van, and the CX1e, a medium-to-large SUV designed for families. CEO Andy An recently highlighted the company's aggressive global growth strategy, targeting an expansion from 25 to over 50 markets worldwide by the end of the year, underscoring Zeekr's ambition to become a major player in the global EV landscape.
