GAC Group and Huawei Establish Joint Venture for Electric Vehicle Production
Chinese automaker GAC Group has officially established a dedicated entity in partnership with technology giant Huawei to develop and manufacture electric vehicles. Announced by GAC Chairman Feng Xingya on March 29, the collaboration aims to launch its first model next year with a targeted price of RMB 300,000 ($41,370). Under this agreement, Huawei will lead product positioning definitions, while GAC retains decision-making authority and provides comprehensive project support. The joint venture follows the creation of Huawang Automotive Technology (Guangzhou) Co. Ltd., a RMB 1.5 billion subsidiary of GAC, on March 18. Additionally, the companies revealed plans to introduce vehicles under GAC’s Xiangwang lineup featuring Level 3 semi-autonomous driving capabilities later this year. The inaugural model of this series, the S7 sports utility vehicle, was launched on March 30 at a starting price of RMB 169,800, significantly lower than its pre-sale estimate. This strategic alliance highlights the deepening integration between traditional automotive manufacturing and advanced technology sectors in China's competitive EV market.
