Foundation Stone Laid for Lata-Asha Mangeshkar Institute of Medical Sciences in Pune
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis laid the foundation stone for the Lata-Asha Mangeshkar Institute of Medical Sciences (LMIMS) in Nandoshi, Pune. The event, organized by the Lata Mangeshkar Medical Foundation, also served as a condolence meet for the late singer Asha Bhosle. Fadnavis assured government support for critical infrastructure, including road development, water supply, and concessional building permissions for the charitable project. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat attended, stating that the institute would preserve the legacy of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle through societal service. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde highlighted the pride of Maharashtra in honoring Asha Bhosle. Dr. Dhananjay Kelkar, medical director of the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, explained that the new 40-acre facility aims to address the growing demand for affordable healthcare. The institute will feature eight major centers, including super-specialty hospitals for surgery, medicine, psychiatry, and palliative care, along with a wellness village and veterinary hospital. A medical college is also planned in collaboration with Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Sanstha. The project builds on the existing hospital's legacy of providing significant charitable care to over 200,000 patients annually.
