Former GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijaylaxmi Appointed Chairperson of Telangana Women’s Commission
The Telangana state government has officially appointed Gadwal Vijaylaxmi, the former mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), as the new chairperson of the Telangana Women’s Commission. The appointment was formalized through an order issued on Monday by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao. Vijaylaxmi is set to serve a five-year term starting from the date she assumes office. In addition to the chairperson, the government has nominated six other members to serve on the commission. Notably, Kasoju Sankaramma is recognized as the mother of Srikantha Chary, who died in 2009 after self-immolating in protest for the creation of a separate Telangana state.
