Former Army Personnel Accused of Triple Murder Killed in Police Encounter in Uttar Pradesh

Gurpreet Singh, a 46-year-old former Indian Army personnel accused of murdering three people in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district, was killed in a police encounter on May 11, 2026. The incident occurred while Singh was being transported to Sakaldiha village to recreate the crime scene. According to police, Singh snatched a pistol from an officer and opened fire while attempting to escape. Retaliatory fire from the police team struck him in the chest and abdomen, leading to his death at a hospital. Two police personnel, including a sub-inspector, were injured during the clash. Singh had allegedly committed three random murders within 24 hours: killing a man on a passenger train, shooting another passenger on the Jammu-Tawi Express, and murdering a woman at a private hospital. Authorities stated that Singh, who had been dismissed from a security job due to alcoholism and deteriorating mental health, claimed no personal vendetta against his victims. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination as investigations continue into the spontaneous violence.
