Fire in Biochemistry Lab at Guntur Government General Hospital Contained; No Casualties Reported

A fire incident occurred in the biochemistry laboratory of the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, on May 12, 2026. The blaze was triggered by a suspected electrical short circuit, potentially caused by an overload from air conditioners and electronic equipment during the peak summer season. Smoke was initially detected emanating from the locked laboratory, prompting immediate action by hospital security and staff. The situation was rapidly brought under control thanks to the automatic activation of the sprinkler system, which sprayed water on the flames before personnel entered the room. Fire department officials also arrived to assist in fully securing the area. While the fire caused damage to certain materials and a portion of the ceiling, there were no reported casualties, and critical laboratory equipment and machinery remained unharmed.
