Family Says Health of Boy Thrown from Tate Modern Takes Sad Step Backwards
The family of a French boy, who was six years old when he was thrown from the 10th-floor balcony of London's Tate Modern in August 2019, has reported a significant setback in his recovery. In a recent update, they described his progress as taking a 'sad step backwards' following surgery performed in January 2026. The child, who survived the 100ft fall but suffered life-changing injuries including brain bleeding and multiple fractures, remains hospitalized in a rehabilitation center and is currently unable to walk. His parents noted that his rehabilitation is proving longer and more difficult than anticipated, causing him great frustration as he can only leave for weekend visits in a wheelchair. Despite these challenges, the family remains hopeful, highlighting that he has found a suitable school and made supportive friends who eagerly await his return. The attacker, Jonty Bravery, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 15 years for attempted murder. Recently, Bravery received an additional 16-week sentence for assaulting nurses at Broadmoor psychiatric hospital, where he is detained.
