Edo Governor Promises Justice for Slain UNIBEN Student, Vows Crackdown on Cultism

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Alexander Omogiate, a University of Benin (UNIBEN) student, who was shot dead by masked gunmen in broad daylight. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at the university's main gate in Ugbowo, shortly after the victim completed his Political Science exams. Two other passengers in the vehicle were injured, and a passerby was also hit by a stray bullet. In an official statement, Governor Okpebholo described the killing as an affront to human dignity and public safety, assuring the bereaved family that justice will be served. He confirmed that the Edo State Police Command has launched an investigation to apprehend the perpetrators. Furthermore, the Governor reiterated his administration's resolve to eradicate cultism in Edo State through sustained security operations, inter-agency collaboration, and community engagement. He urged citizens to provide confidential information to security agencies to aid the manhunt.
