Dubai Completes World's First Purpose-Built Flying Taxi Station
Dubai authorities have announced the completion of the world's first purpose-built electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) Air Taxi Station. The facility, visited by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, is situated near the city’s international airport and features four floors, two take-off and landing pads, dedicated charging infrastructure, and a two-level car park. Spanning 3,100 square metres, the station is designed to serve as the main hub for air taxi operations, with an annual capacity of up to 170,000 passengers. Commercial operations are scheduled to commence by the end of 2026, utilizing aircraft from California-based Joby Aviation, which has secured exclusive operating rights for six years. This milestone marks a significant step in Dubai's urban mobility strategy, with three additional flying taxi stations currently planned to expand the network. The initiative highlights the emirate's commitment to integrating advanced aviation technology into public transport infrastructure, positioning it as a global leader in the emerging low-altitude economy and sustainable urban air mobility solutions.
