Drunk Man Assaults TVK Cadre Distributing Sweets in Sivakasi

In Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, a celebration involving the distribution of sweets by cadres of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party escalated into a violent altercation on Sunday. The event was organized to commemorate the swearing-in of TVK president C. Joseph Vijay as Chief Minister. According to police reports, a group of party workers, led by functionary Guru Ramachandran, was handing out sweets at Alamarathupatti when an intoxicated man identified as Kasirajan, also known as Suresh, approached them. After accepting a sweet, Suresh began quarreling with the cadre, demanding compensation for a goat he claimed had died. Despite attempts by the party members to reason with him, the situation deteriorated when Suresh physically attacked the group. The ensuing melee resulted in minor injuries, including bruises, to three TVK cadre members. In response to the incident, the Sivakasi East police have registered a case against Suresh, booking him on charges of assault. This incident highlights tensions that can arise during political celebrations and the immediate legal response by local authorities to maintain order.
