DMK Supporters Booked for Distributing ₹8,000 Gift Coupons in Coimbatore
Police in Coimbatore have registered two separate cases against supporters of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party for allegedly distributing gift coupons valued at ₹8,000 to voters. In the first incident, six DMK supporters, including ward secretary Sethuraman, were booked for making door-to-door visits in the Vivekananda Road area on April 9, 2026. The case was filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Representation of the People Act following a complaint by a local resident. In a second incident, police seized 170 unfilled voter detail forms and similar gift coupons from Prathiksha Studio in Gandhipuram after receiving reports of distribution activities on April 12. The studio owner, N. Vengatesh, was booked after opposition from BJP and AIADMK supporters prompted a police inspection. Both cases were registered with permission from the second judicial magistrate court. These actions highlight ongoing enforcement against alleged electoral malpractices and vote-buying tactics during the election period. Investigations into both incidents are currently underway as authorities seek to ensure fair electoral conduct in the region.
