Didi Autonomous Driving Secures RMB 2 Billion in Series D Funding
Didi Autonomous Driving, the self-driving subsidiary of Chinese ride-hailing giant Didi, announced on October 11 that it has successfully raised RMB 2 billion (approximately US$275 million) in a Series D funding round. The investment consortium includes prominent entities such as the Zhongguancun Science City Growth Fund, Beijing Information Industry Development Fund, Beijing Artificial Intelligence Industry Investment Fund, GAC Group, Guangzhou Guanghua Fund, and Didi itself. The company stated that these funds will be strategically allocated to enhance artificial intelligence research and accelerate the commercial deployment of Level 4 autonomous driving technologies. Since the start of the year, Didi has conducted fully driverless tests in Beijing and Guangzhou, navigating complex real-world scenarios including rush hours and adverse weather conditions. Zhang Bo, Didi’s co-founder and CEO, emphasized that L4 autonomous driving is a pivotal technological shift for the coming decade. Furthermore, the company plans to deliver its jointly developed L4 production vehicle with GAC Aion by the end of 2025, aiming to initiate pilot operations in major cities like Beijing and Guangzhou.
