Deep Robotics Deploys X30 Quadruped Robot for Singapore Power Inspections
Chinese robotics firm Deep Robotics, in collaboration with Singaporean supplier Eastern Green Power, has delivered its self-developed X30 quadruped robot to Singapore Power Group (SP Group). Named SPock by SP Group, this deployment marks the first use of a Chinese-developed robot dog in an overseas power system. The robot is designed for advanced power tunnel inspections, equipped with video and thermal imaging capabilities to navigate utility corridors, detect defects in real-time, and document findings. This innovation aims to replace exhausting manual inspections, which previously required staff to walk up to six kilometers per session. SP Group estimates that SPock will save approximately 480 hours of manual inspection time annually, allowing personnel to focus on data analysis and maintenance planning. Additionally, the robot can serve as a first responder during emergencies, assessing situations without risking human safety. The project involved three to four months of customization to adapt sensors and algorithms to Singapore’s specific infrastructure conditions.
