Dan Roy Named Vector Research Co-Director
The Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence has announced a significant restructuring of its research leadership, appointing Daniel Roy as the new Research Co-Director alongside current director Graham Taylor. This strategic change aims to better serve the institute's growing community of over 700 researchers and expand its global reach. Under the new model, Taylor will focus on external initiatives and priorities, while Roy will concentrate on internal operations and fostering a collaborative culture. Roy, a founding faculty member and Canada CIFAR AI Chair, brings extensive expertise in deep learning theory, statistical sciences, and probabilistic programming. Taylor, also a Canada CIFAR AI Chair, will continue his work on external partnerships, including his role in the OECD AI Futures Working Group. The co-directors plan to advance strategic research priorities such as AI trust, safety, foundation models, and AI for science. This leadership adjustment coincides with Vector's upcoming move to the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Centre in 2024, aiming to strengthen research integrity and attract next-generation AI talent to Canada.
