CPIM Demands Cleanliness Drive Along Polluted Nagavali Riverbank in Srikakulam

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) in Srikakulam district has urgently called for a special cleanliness drive along the Nagavali riverbank, citing severe garbage accumulation and environmental hazards. On May 9, 2026, District Secretary D. Govinda Rao led a protest involving a human chain near a bridge over the river. The party accused the Srikakulam Municipal Corporation of negligence and alleged collusion with local hospital managements. According to CPIM leaders, medical waste is being illegally dumped near the riverbank, and drainage water is flowing directly into the river, leading to contaminated water supplies for households. Key figures involved in the protest included Konari Mohana Rao, P. Tejeswara Rao, and Ch. Ammannaidu. The demonstration highlights growing public concern over sanitation standards and potential health risks associated with polluted water sources in the region.
