CPI(M) Urges Expedited Land Title Issuance for Aathumedu Residents in Virudhunagar
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has formally requested the Virudhunagar Collector to accelerate the issuance of land titles, known as pattas, to approximately 300 families residing in the Aathumedu area. These residents have occupied their homes for over four decades but were unable secure legal ownership because the land was inadvertently marked as a pathway on municipal maps. Although the Sattur Revenue Divisional Officer confirmed eligibility following an inquiry in August 2025, and the Municipal Council passed a supporting resolution in December 2025, the administrative process remains stalled. The petition was submitted by party town secretary M. Jeyabharath during a grievances redressal meeting after the withdrawal of the model code of conduct. Additionally, the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam submitted a separate demand for a direct paddy purchase center in Devadanam. Farmers cultivating around 2,000 acres face low offers from traders and crop damage from wild animals, necessitating immediate government intervention to protect their livelihoods during the harvest season.
