CPI and CPI(M) Offer Unconditional Support to TVK for Tamil Nadu Government Formation

On May 8, 2026, the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] formally communicated their unconditional support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for forming the next government in Tamil Nadu. Letters were addressed to Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, emphasizing the parties' commitment to establishing a stable, secular, and democratic administration for the state's citizens. The CPI's correspondence was issued under the instruction of State Secretary M. Veerapandian and Legislature Party Leader T. Ramachandran. Similarly, the CPI(M) letter was authorized by State Secretary P. Shanmugam and newly elected Legislature Party Leader R. Chellaswamy. Copies of these letters were also sent to TVK leader C. Joseph Vijay. This political maneuver follows recent state election results, where the left parties announced their backing for Vijay’s leadership during a joint press conference in Chennai. The move aims to consolidate political forces to ensure governance aligned with secular and democratic principles, marking a significant development in the post-election government formation process in Tamil Nadu.
