CPI(M)'s M.A. Baby Urges Governor to Invite TVK to Form Tamil Nadu Government

M.A. Baby, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has dismissed rumors of a potential alliance between the DMK and AIADMK as baseless. Speaking in Madurai, he asserted that the people's mandate in the 2026 Assembly elections clearly favored the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which emerged as the single-largest party despite falling 11 seats short of a majority. Baby criticized Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar for delaying the invitation to TVK, arguing that this action contradicts established democratic precedents and Supreme Court guidelines. He alleged that the Union government, led by the BJP, is attempting to manipulate the political situation to install a backed government, potentially even threatening to bifurcate the state. The CPI(M) has formally written to the Governor, offering unconditional support to TVK to form the government and urging immediate action. Baby emphasized that his party would not support the AIADMK, an NDA member, through any backdoor arrangements. This development highlights the ongoing uncertainty in Tamil Nadu's government formation process following the recent electoral verdict.
