JD.com to Unveil New Hotel Development Plan by Year-End
JD.com founder and chairman Richard Liu announced on September 16 that the e-commerce giant will release a new hotel development plan by the end of the year. This move marks a significant expansion into the travel services sector, following the company's recent entry into the food delivery market. Speaking at a user event, Liu revealed that he had recently held discussions with executives from major hotel groups in Hong Kong. He emphasized that JD.com aims to avoid engaging in price wars within the hospitality industry. Instead, the company focuses on lowering operational costs for partners through supply chain optimization. JD Travel, which was launched during the June 18 shopping festival, has already implemented initiatives such as the 'Hotel PLUS Membership' program, offering hotels up to three years of zero commissions. Additionally, JD.com has signed a strategic partnership with Jinjiang Hotels. Liu noted that hotels participating in the zero-commission scheme currently source approximately 50% of their customers through the JD platform, highlighting the growing influence of the company's travel division in the market.
