Coimbatore Education Department Reviews Class 12 Results After Rank Drop

The School Education Department in Coimbatore has initiated a comprehensive review of Class 12 examination performance after the district's state ranking fell from fourth to thirteenth place. Despite maintaining a high overall pass percentage of 96.66%, the slight 0.8% decline compared to the previous year resulted in the significant drop in standing. Chief Educational Officer R. Balamurali attributed the shift to multiple factors, including a larger number of examinees, approximately 730 students failing in just one subject, and a marginal decrease in pass rates among girl students in government schools. The review will analyze data block-wise and subject-wise, focusing on schools with lower performance metrics and students needing academic support. Officials plan to strengthen coaching and monitoring in higher secondary classes while providing career guidance. Statistical breakdowns reveal that private schools achieved a 99.03% pass rate, significantly outperforming government (93.39%) and corporation schools (91.31%). A total of 158 schools secured 100% results. The department aims to identify specific areas for improvement through discussions with teachers based on the findings.
