China Unveils Qinglong, First Full-Sized Open-Source Humanoid Robot at WAIC 2024
At the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2024 in Shanghai, the National Local Joint Humanoid Robot Innovation Center unveiled Qinglong, China’s first full-sized general-purpose humanoid robot. Developed by Humanoid Robots (Shanghai) Limited, Qinglong stands 185cm tall, weighs 80kg, and features 43 active degrees of freedom with 400 TOPs of computational power. The robot demonstrated delicate manipulation capabilities, such as handling soft bread, alongside agile mobility and obstacle avoidance. A key aspect of the launch is the initiation of the OpenLoong open-source community, which aims to accelerate global innovation by sharing hardware structures and software packages. Jiang Lei, Chief Scientist of the Innovation Center, announced plans to release new zodiac-named robot models annually. This unveiling positions China competitively in the advanced robotics sector, coinciding with Tesla’s debut of its second-generation Optimus robot at the same conference.
