Chennai Man Sentenced to Life for Murdering Son

A sessions court in Chennai has sentenced Sakthivel, a 51-year-old man, to life imprisonment for the murder of his 20-year-old son, Satheesh. The incident occurred in the early hours of March 11, 2019, in Ramapuram, following a domestic quarrel. According to police reports, Sakthivel attacked his son with a knife, fatally injuring him. When his wife, Lokanayaki, and daughter intervened upon hearing the commotion, he also assaulted them before fleeing the scene. A case was registered at the Rayala Nagar Police Station based on the wife's complaint, and Sakthivel was arrested on the same day. The trial was conducted at the II Additional District Sessions Court in Poonamallee. Upon concluding the proceedings, the court found Sakthivel guilty of murder. In addition to the life sentence, he was ordered to pay a fine of ₹7,000. The judgment stipulates that if he fails to pay the fine, he must undergo an additional one year of imprisonment. This verdict marks the conclusion of a legal process spanning several years since the tragic family violence incident in 2019.
