Chathannur MLA B.B. Gopakumar Dismisses Allegations of Secret CPI(M)-BJP Deal

B.B. Gopakumar, the first-ever BJP Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kollam district, has firmly rejected allegations by the United Democratic Front (UDF) regarding a secret political arrangement between the CPI(M) and the BJP in the Chathannur and Kottarakara constituencies. In his first major address following his election victory on May 9, 2026, Gopakumar attributed his success to a decade of consistent engagement with voters, noting his progression from a runner-up to winning the seat. He emphasized that the electorate's decision was driven by affection and a desire for change rather than hidden deals. Gopakumar countered the UDF's claims by questioning their inability to retain vote shares from previous Lok Sabha elections, suggesting they should introspect on their own declining base instead. Looking ahead, he outlined his legislative priorities, which include addressing the struggles of the cashew industry workers and pursuing the long-standing demand for the formation of Chathannur taluk. He vowed to integrate resources from the Union government, State government, and local panchayat systems to resolve multifaceted developmental challenges facing the constituency.
