Chinese battery giant CATL has announced a strategic partnership with state-owned automaker Changan to establish battery swap facilities specifically designed for ride-hailing fleets. This collaboration marks a significant step in CATL's ambitious long-term goal to deploy a network of 10,000 battery swap stations, with over 3,000 expected to become operational within the next three years. Under the agreement, CATL’s swappable battery technology will power Changan’s Oshan 520 compact sedan, offering a driving range of 500 kilometers and enabling battery replacements in just two minutes. Additionally, CATL has signed an agreement in principle with Sinopec’s Chongqing bureau to jointly build and operate these facilities in Chongqing, where Changan is headquartered. This move expands CATL’s existing alliances with other major Chinese automakers like GAC and BAIC, as well as ride-hailing giant Didi, reinforcing its position in the evolving electric vehicle infrastructure market.
