Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) has announced plans to construct ten battery swap stations for electric vehicles across Hong Kong by the end of 2026. This strategic initiative aims to significantly reduce charging times for EVs and enhance operational efficiency for local taxi drivers. To facilitate this expansion, CATL will collaborate with Chinese state-owned automaker FAW Group and Dragon Rise New Energy Holdings Ltd, a Hong Kong-listed energy infrastructure provider. As part of the partnership, FAW will distribute right-hand-drive versions of its E-QM5 electric sedan, under the Hongqi marque, equipped with CATL’s swappable battery technology. Additionally, a joint venture between CATL and Orange Energy, the energy subsidiary of ride-hailing giant Didi, will provide development and operational support for the associated online battery swap platform. This move aligns with CATL’s broader ambition to establish 1,000 battery swap stations in mainland China by 2025.
