Carlos Queiroz Appointed Ghana Head Coach Ahead of 2026 World Cup

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars, less than two months before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Queiroz replaces Otto Addo, who was dismissed in March following friendly defeats against Austria and Germany. The 73-year-old coach, who previously managed Oman, Iran, Portugal, and other national teams, was selected from over 600 applicants due to his extensive World Cup experience. This appointment marks Queiroz's fifth consecutive World Cup appearance as a head coach. He described the role as a mission, pledging to dedicate his knowledge to the team's success. Ghana is drawn in Group L alongside Croatia, England, and Panama for the upcoming tournament. The team has scheduled warm-up matches against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2 to prepare for the competition. Queiroz assumes immediate charge of tournament preparations, aiming to stabilize the squad after a turbulent period leading up to the global event.
