Cab Driver Arrested for Chain Snatching in Hyderabad's Miyapur

Police in Miyapur, Hyderabad, have arrested a 28-year-old cab driver, Kothakota Govind Rao, for snatching a gold chain from a 65-year-old woman. The incident occurred on April 12 near HUDA Park, where the victim was returning from a morning walk. The assailant approached her on a motorcycle, used force to steal the chain after she resisted, and caused minor injuries before fleeing. Investigators traced the motorcycle used in the crime through technical evidence and vehicle number plate analysis, leading them to the suspect's residence in Borabanda. Rao, a native of Srikakulam district, admitted to targeting vulnerable women walking alone and selling the stolen gold for personal expenses. Further investigations revealed his involvement in similar chain-snatching cases within the Miyapur and Ameenpur police station jurisdictions under the Cyberabad commissionerate. The seized gold chains were recovered by authorities. This arrest highlights the police's use of technological surveillance to solve street crimes affecting senior citizens in urban areas.
