BYD Unveils RACCO Electric K-Car at Tokyo Motor Show 2025
Chinese automaker BYD has officially debuted its first electric K-Car, named the RACCO, at the 2025 Tokyo Motor Show. This new model is specifically engineered for the Japanese market, adhering to local regulations and design preferences with a compact, boxy body, four doors, and rear sliding doors. The vehicle features a front-wheel-drive system powered by a 20 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, delivering an estimated WLTC range of 180 kilometers and supporting 100 kW fast charging capabilities. BYD plans to initiate presales for the RACCO in the summer of 2026. The expected price point is approximately 2.6 million yen (around US$16,500), positioning it slightly above Nissan’s Sakura, which currently holds the title of the best-selling electric K-Car in Japan. This launch marks a significant strategic move for BYD to compete directly in Japan's specialized compact car segment, leveraging its expertise in electric vehicle technology to challenge established domestic manufacturers. The introduction of the RACCO highlights the growing competition in the electric micro-car sector within one of the world's most mature automotive markets.
