Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has officially begun accepting orders for its new Sealion 7 sports utility vehicle in India, marking a significant expansion of its presence in the South Asian market. The announcement was made on January 18 during the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo in New Delhi, where the company also showcased its ultra-premium Yangwang U8 off-roader. Customers can secure a reservation with a deposit of 70,000 Indian Rupees (approximately $809). While the full pricing structure is scheduled for release next month, deliveries are expected to commence in March. The Sealion 7 features an 82.56 kWh battery pack, offering a driving range of up to 567 kilometers on a single charge. This launch follows previous introductions of the Atto 3 and Seal models in the region. According to Rajeev Chauhan, head of BYD India's electric passenger vehicle business, the automaker aims to expand its retail network to 40 dealerships across the country by the end of the current month, underscoring its aggressive growth strategy in the competitive Indian EV sector.
