BYD Targets 100,000 EV Sales in Mexico for 2025
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is projected to sell 50,000 cars in Mexico this year and aims to double that figure to 100,000 units in 2025. This ambitious target was announced by Jorge Vallejo, the company’s country head, during a public statement in Monterrey. Since last year, BYD has been distributing all-electric versions of its Tang SUVs and Han sedans through local dealerships, recently expanding its lineup with the Shark pickup truck in May. Additionally, Vallejo confirmed that BYD will reveal the location of its first manufacturing plant in Mexico by the end of this year. The facility, designed with an initial production capacity of 150,000 vehicles, is intended primarily for the local market rather than for export. Earlier reports from February indicated that the plant would likely be situated in central or southern Mexico, avoiding northern regions near the US border. This strategic expansion underscores BYD's commitment to strengthening its presence in the Latin American automotive sector and meeting growing regional demand for electric vehicles.
