BWSSB’s ‘Blue Force’ Drive Recovers ₹55 Crore, Disconnects 11,000 Illegal Water Links in Bengaluru

The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has successfully intensified its crackdown on unauthorized water and sewerage connections through its special operations squad, known as ‘Blue Force’. Over the past five months, the initiative has disconnected 11,217 illegal links, comprising 9,751 drinking water and 1,466 sewerage connections, across 54,625 buildings in Bengaluru’s four zones. This rigorous enforcement has generated ₹55 crore in additional revenue, with ₹50 crore collected via prorata charges for regularizing connections and an estimated ₹5 crore from bringing previously unbilled water usage into the billing net. The East Zone recorded the highest number of disconnections, while the South Zone underwent the most inspections. Beyond financial gains, the drive has resulted in monthly savings of nearly 210 million litres of drinking water, significantly alleviating pressure on the city’s strained infrastructure. Inaugurated in November 2025, the ‘Blue Force’ consists of 18 specialized teams including ex-servicemen and supervisors. BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar emphasized that eliminating illegal connections is crucial for improving service delivery and infrastructure efficiency, marking a significant step toward sustainable urban water management in Bengaluru.
