Body Found After Fire Destroys Refugee Accommodation in Raunheim
A dead person was discovered at the scene of a fire that completely destroyed a container housing complex in Raunheim, southern Hesse. The Darmstadt public prosecutor's office and police have launched an investigation, though neither the identity of the deceased nor the cause of death has been determined pending an autopsy. Authorities stated that the cause of the fire remains unclear and there is currently no evidence of criminal activity. Witnesses are urged to contact the Rüsselsheim criminal police with any relevant information. The facility, which housed refugees and homeless individuals, had a capacity for up to 30 people, but only 13 residents were found by emergency services. One resident suffered a shoulder injury and smoke inhalation. Additionally, four firefighters sustained burn injuries due to the intense heat, with one requiring hospitalization for non-life-threatening conditions. Over 100 firefighters responded to the blaze, which broke out on Thursday night and was extinguished by Thursday morning. Two fire engines were also damaged during the operation. Flames were initially seen emerging from ground-floor windows before spreading rapidly throughout the structure.
