Bengaluru Traffic Police Book 579 Drunk Driving Cases in Week-Long Drive

The Bengaluru City Traffic Police conducted a special enforcement drive from May 4 to May 10, 2026, targeting major traffic violations to enhance road safety. The operation involved personnel from all 53 traffic police stations across the city and focused primarily on curbing drunk driving, overspeeding, and rash driving, which are identified as leading causes of local road accidents. During this campaign, authorities inspected 45,272 vehicles of various categories. As a result, 579 cases were registered against motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol. In a parallel initiative addressing overspeeding, police recorded 179 violations and collected fines totaling ₹1.80 lakh. The police department emphasized that these special drives are part of an ongoing effort to ensure stricter compliance with traffic regulations. Officials announced that similar enforcement actions will continue in the coming days to maintain safer road conditions and deter negligent driving behaviors.
