Ballot Symbol Affixing Begins for Erode Assembly Elections

The process of affixing ballot sheets, which include candidate names, photographs, and symbols, onto ballot units has commenced in all eight Assembly constituencies within the Erode district. This preparation is for the upcoming Assembly election scheduled for April 23, 2026. The Election Commission has distributed a total of 2,852 control units, 2,852 ballot units, and 3,089 Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units to the constituencies since March 24. Due to a high number of contestants, specifically 20 candidates in the Erode (East) Assembly constituency and 18 in Gobichettipalayam, additional ballot units were required. Consequently, an extra 310 ballot units were allotted to Erode (East) and 370 to Gobichettipalayam following a supplementary randomization process conducted on April 11. This logistical operation ensures that the electronic voting infrastructure is correctly configured to reflect the specific candidate lists for each constituency, maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the voting process for the significant number of participants in these key regional races.
