Anna Grassellino Appointed to DOE Office of Science Advisory Committee
Anna Grassellino, Chief Technology Officer and Associate Laboratory Director for the Technology Directorate at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), has been appointed to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science Advisory Committee (SCAC). In this role, she will also chair the SCAC quantum subcommittee, which is tasked with advancing national quantum information science goals. The subcommittee aims to guide efforts toward the DOE’s 2028 objective of developing error-corrected quantum computers capable of addressing major scientific challenges. Grassellino will help assess the current state of the field, identify key steps for national advancement, and explore partnership opportunities across the U.S. quantum ecosystem, including national laboratories, private sector innovations, and other federal agencies. As an internationally recognized physicist and director of the DOE’s Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems Center, Grassellino brings significant expertise in superconducting technologies for accelerators and quantum systems. Her appointment underscores the strategic importance of quantum computing in national scientific priorities. Fermilab Director Norbert Holtkamp praised her scientific excellence and leadership, noting that the laboratory fully supports her work in defining a clear path forward for fault-tolerant quantum computing.
