Andhra Pradesh Records 19,952 Crimes Against Women in 2024: NCRB Report

According to the Crime in India 2024 report released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the Andhra Pradesh police registered 19,952 cases of crime against women in 2024. This figure represents a significant decline from 22,418 cases in 2023 and 25,503 in 2022. Law enforcement authorities arrested 17,149 individuals implicated in these offenses and filed chargesheets in 94.4% of the cases. The data highlights specific categories of crime, including 9,165 instances of harassment by husbands or relatives, 2,389 cases of assault, 843 cases of sexual harassment, and 441 cases of rape. Additionally, 472 kidnapping cases were recorded in 2024, a decrease from previous years, with motives ranging from ransom to family disputes. By the end of the year, 865 kidnapping cases remained pending, involving 865 untraced persons. The report underscores both the persistent challenges regarding women's safety in the region and the high rate of judicial processing by local police forces.
