AMMK Chief Dhinakaran Expels Lone MLA S. Kamaraj for Supporting TVK Government

T.T.V. Dhinakaran, the general secretary of the Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazhagam (AMMK), has expelled the party's sole legislator, S. Kamaraj, citing anti-party activities. The decision follows Kamaraj's public endorsement of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government during a speech in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on May 12, 2026. While welcoming the election of Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar, Kamaraj explicitly extended his support to the ruling TVK administration. This expulsion culminates a week of internal tension within the AMMK. Previously, on May 8, Dhinakaran accused TVK founder C. Joseph Vijay of submitting a forged letter of support purportedly signed by Kamaraj to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. Although Dhinakaran initially claimed Kamaraj was missing, the MLA was later located and appeared alongside the party chief on May 9 to address the media. Despite this brief reconciliation, Kamaraj's subsequent legislative support for the rival TVK government led to his immediate removal from the party, leaving the AMMK without representation in the state assembly.
