Altenburg's 'Yosephinum' Gaming World Opening Delayed to 2028

The opening of the Yosephinum, a new multimedia adventure world dedicated to the history and present of games in Altenburg, Germany, has been postponed until February 2028. Originally scheduled for an earlier date, the delay of approximately six months was announced by city administration following the building's topping-out ceremony. The postponement is attributed to unusually long winter frost periods that hindered concreting work, as well as the need to professionally repair amateurishly bricked-up old canals and shafts within the historic structure to ensure sustainability. The project involves rebuilding the former parliament of the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg and adding an extension. Upon completion, the facility will feature 20 themed rooms across 3,500 square meters, including exhibitions, a social gaming lounge, and multifunctional event spaces. Officials estimate the attraction will draw around 75,000 visitors annually. The total investment is approximately 25 million euros, with 22 million euros in external funding and three million euros contributed by the city. This initiative aims to boost tourism in Altenburg, leveraging its 500-year card-making tradition and status as the birthplace of the card game Skat.
