Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu announced that the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad will be upgraded to world-class standards before the city hosts the Commonwealth Games in 2030. Speaking at the Aircraft Leasing and Financing Summit in GIFT City, Gandhinagar, Naidu stated that planning is underway and construction will begin soon. He also outlined broader aviation development plans for Gujarat, including upgrades to Keshod and Deesa airports and transforming the Greenfield Dholera airport into an aviation manufacturing hub with multi-modal connectivity. Addressing the industry's aircraft shortage amidst rising airport numbers, the minister emphasized boosting the leasing sector, noting that 85% of India's fleet is leased. Additionally, he announced the launch of a seaplane service between Kochi and Lakshadweep within two weeks, aiming to expand water-based air connectivity.
