Abraccine Updates List of Best Brazilian Films with 'The Secret Agent'
The Brazilian Association of Cinema Critics (Abraccine) has updated its prestigious list of the one hundred best national films, marking a decade since the original compilation. This significant revision incorporates works released from 2016 onwards, reflecting the evolving landscape of Brazilian cinema. Notable inclusions are 'Still I'm Here' and 'O Agente Secreto' (The Secret Agent), both of which received Oscar nominations in 2025 and 2026, respectively. Orlando Margarido, president of Abraccine, stated that the update aims to enhance diversity and acknowledge changes in society and the association's profile over its fifteen-year history. Unlike the previous edition, the new list does not rank films by quality but presents them in chronological order, spanning from classics like 'Limite' (1931) and 'Vidas Secas' (1963) to recent titles such as 'Marte Um' (2022). The comprehensive selection will also be published in a book by Letramento later this year, serving as an important review of Brazil's cinematic history.
